Everything leading up to Kerri and Kade’s Moscow Idaho engagement session was straight out of a rom-com. This sweet couple is close to my heart. Kerri is one of my old friends’ little sisters from way back. From the time I was in 2nd grade, I got to know her free-spirit and witty sense of humor from when she was just tiny. She was at most of our sleepovers and birthday parties and I watched her grow up into the amazing woman she is today! And I met Kade for the first time at his older sister’s wedding that I photographed two years ago.

I feel really lucky because I feel like, in a small way, I got to see this love story unfold in real life. We all grew up in Northern Idaho and I remember visiting our hometown one weekend in the fall and going to brunch where Kerri worked. She told me she was going on a date with Kade. I was instantly stoked. A month later, I went back and had brunch and I asked how her date went with Kade. She had the goofiest grin on her face and told me that they were already best friends and she joked that she was going to marry him someday. Over the next many months, every time I was home visiting my parents, I stopped for brunch and got updates from Kerri. It was like watching the best romantic comedy happening in front of me. They moved in together, experienced high highs and low lows together, and all along I was lucky enough to see their love grow and form a deeper solid foundation. I admire these two so much because they have the ability to go from laughing hysterically about a dirty joke to talking about a serious life-altering tragedy with blunt honestly very quickly. I feel so lucky to call Kerri a friend and have watched her fall in love.

When Kerri and Kade officially got engaged, I immediately told her she didn’t have a choice, I was going to be the one to take their engagement photos. On a fall day, we drove to one of my favorite backroads in the wheatfields of our hometown. It felt eerily full-circle taking photos of people I grew up with in the place where I fell in love with photography. In my earliest hard-drives, I have photos from this exact location more than 10 years ago when I used selective color edits and free editing software on my computer to edit photos before I had Lightroom or a real SLR. It felt so fitting to document their beautiful love story in the wheat fields overlooking The Palouse.

  1. You have such a distinctive style of processing here! I feel like they are in a movie. Check out “Days of Heaven” if you haven’t seen it! Some of those vistas with the dried grass make for incredible images.
