Megan and Dani's Queer Boise Depot Wedding was nothing short of incredible. On the eve of Pride Month, these incredible women said I Do in Boise, Idaho at the Boise Train Depot. With the Idaho State Capitol in the background surrounded by the lush green foothills, I can honestly say this was one of the most fun and emotional weddings I've ever had the honor of shooting.

I wrote a blog post resource a few years ago about safe LGBTQ Wedding Vendors in Idaho. At the time, I was so frustrated hearing my queer friends tell me about the horrible things Idaho wedding vendors said to them when they found out they were a gay or queer couple. Idaho is one of the least progressive states in the country. I created a resource to help queer couples in Idaho and luckily, Megan and Dani found me through the resource I wrote.

Planning a Queer Boise Depot Wedding

Right away, Megan and Dani used the resource I created to hire their vendors. Both Megan and Dani grew up in different states. Their goal for their wedding was to create an inclusive and fun weekend experience for all their friends and family. Because everyone traveled from across the country, their wedding week was full of beer tours, hikes, and wine tours. It was a full wedding weekend showing off the best of Boise!

Due to the fact that Megan and Dani don't love being the center of attention, they made lots of intentional choices to make their wedding feel comfortable for them. Their priority was creating a FUN environment for their favorite people. Emphasis on PARTY. As a couple, they decided to veto wedding party toasts. Instead of a large wedding party, they had their siblings create an intimate wedding party. Also, they skipped parent dances and chose to have only a first dance as a married couple.

Non-Traditional Wedding Day Moments

One of my favorite memories from their Boise Depot Wedding happened before the ceremony. To maximize time with their people, we decided to do all their photos before their ceremony so they could be fully present as soon as their vows were over. Megan and Dani shared a first look together before we took wedding party and family photos.

However, for the first time in my career, we orchestrated a family first look with their entire family. Prior to the wedding, Megan and Dani didn't share any details about their outfits with their family. Dani had a custom suit made and Megan specially ordered her custom dress from a designer in Boise. After their private first look, their families gathered for a big reveal. It was so special to see their families react to seeing them together in their wedding outfits. It was a powerful moment I'll never forget seeing the outpouring love and emotion from their family.

I will never forget Megan and Dani's wedding. I met some of the kindest people I've ever met at a wedding. This inclusive and welcoming group of people made me feel like family. It was such an incredible atmosphere. The entire night, I kept catching glimpses of the Idaho Capitol in the distance and I felt so privileged to be the one to capture their queer wedding in Idaho.

The Boise Depot is one of my favorite wedding venues in Idaho!
