Annie and John’s winter Sun Valley Idaho Ski Resort Wedding was truly unforgettable. These two are avid skiers and share a deep love for winter. It only made sense when they started wedding planning to get married at the special place they both held family memories. Despite both being from Portland and Seattle, these two grew up skiing in Sun Valley Idaho. After making the move from Portland to Sun Valley, a Sun Valley Idaho Ski Resort Wedding became a destination wedding for all their friends. And, even better, they now had an excuse to host all their favorite people in their favorite place. As a Sun Valley Idaho Wedding Photographer, I jumped at the chance to join these two for a ski wedding weekend of fun!

Non-Traditional Ski Resort Day Rehearsal Dinner

The benefit to a destination wedding is that you can enjoy a vacation with all your favorite people. Annie and John knew they wanted to be able to ski for an entire day with all their best friends. Instead of a traditional rehearsal dinner, they decided to host all their guests for a ski day at the Sun Valley Resort. To make things more fun, they asked all their guests to dress in 80s retro ski suits. Annie purchased a vintage white ski suit with fringe details. And John wore an all black retro ski suit with a Tux T-shirt underneath! However, my favorite detail of all was their ski charcuterie board!

After sharing some snacks, I skied with Annie and John all the way down the mountain. I’ve never seen a group of 60+ people ski together, but it was truly epic. I snapped photos as I skied with them. Later, I couldn’t believe every person was smiling the entire time! Their ski day was a memory I will never forget. It felt so true to who they are as a couple and became a wedding highlight I’ll never forget.

Sun Valley Idaho Wedding

Waking up on Annie and John’s ski resort wedding day with sore legs, I couldn’t have been more excited to celebrate with them. If you are considering full weekend wedding day coverage, I can tell you that as a wedding photographer, I feel way more excited when I get to know your guests. After spending a full day skiing with their crew, I was pumped for their day. Already feeling familiar with their family and friends cut all the small talk and awkwardness. It was amazing to just go right into the wedding day already feeling super comfortable with everyone!

Annie and John prioritized as much alone time together on their wedding day as possible. We scheduled 3 hours of time before their ceremony to capture their first look, wedding party, and family photos. This allowed them more than enough time to share a wedding cocktail together and remain present. I love that they decided to optimize their schedule to spend every second possible together!

Sun Valley Club Ceremony & Reception

Getting married in the winter comes with certain risks. Of course, we were all a little nervous about what the weather might do on their wedding day. As a Sun Valley Idaho Wedding Photographer, I have seen every type of weather. Luckily, it was a balmy 45 degrees and sunny. Annie and John planned an outdoor wedding ceremony with full views of Mt. Baldy. They left blankets to bundle up in if any guests were chilly. Their ceremony was the perfect temperature and a perfect moment for guests to show off their winter coat style!

After sharing intimate vows, Annie and John moved right along to their cocktail hour. I have never seen a couple ask their guests to create a painting for a guest book, but that’s exactly what their guests did! They shared His & Hers cocktails with their guests before making a grand entrance in the Sun Valley Club ballroom for their party.
