Knik Glacier Engagement Photos in Alaska

When Natalia and Jordan reached out to me about photographing their Knik Glacier Engagement Photos in Alaska, I screamed. Alaska is one of my all time favorite places in the entire world. Lucky for me, my family has worked for Alaska Airlines for decades so I started traveling to Alaska when I was seven years old. Visiting in 2021 remains one of the most special trips of my life as well when I got to capture a helicopter elopement in Seward Alaska. To anyone reading this considering eloping in Alaska or planning Knik Glacier Engagement Photos: I am there. Say less. Get me on a plane and give me at least 24 hours notice, but I will go.

Carefree & Candid Alaska Engagement Photos

When I asked Natalia what her vision was for her engagement photos, she said she felt drawn to candid photography. As soon as she said that, I knew we were meant to be. Candid images, to me, show a couple’s true essence together. Of course, I will always capture the “grandma’s fridge” photo of a couple looking at the camera. The classic portrait is a necessary photo during any photoshoot or engagement session. BUT! Candid images always speak to me on a deeper level. After spending an hour in the car together driving to Knik Glacier, I already felt like these two were best friends of mine. Their energy together is a PARTY. They love to laugh and be silly together. Having the opportunity to capture all the carefree laughter in their relationship was a dream. It’s my favorite type of couple dynamic to document!

Pivoting from a Knik Glacier Tour to Lakeside Adventure Engagement Photos

The first piece of advice I give couples planning any type of engagement photoshoot or elopement in Alaska? Don’t get too attached to Plan A. In Alaska, I typically make a solid plan B and plan C for every couple. Why? Weather. The weather is so unpredictable in Alaska. No matter what month or season, the chance of encountering heavy rain, snow, or wind is always a possibility. When planning Knik Glacier Engagement Photos, we originally planned to land on a glacier and take photos *on top of a glacier*. However, the morning of, it became clear the weather wasn’t going to provide flying weather. After my past experiences in Alaska, I remembered a 4×4 drive I took to a glacial lake nearby. So instead of shooting on a glacier, we captured their Knik Glacier Engagement Photos at the base of the lake. The aqua blue water in the lake came directly from the glacier above. It wasn’t plan A, but Plan B filled all of our hearts with joy and creativity!
