Jimilyn and Kelly are one of my favorite couples, so taking their wintery LGBTQ Engagement Photos in my home state of Idaho was a dream come true. These two love to say that they did things backwards. They eloped before they were officially engaged. They said “I Love You” before they were exclusively a couple. So when they asked me if I would take their LGBTQ engagement photos a year after eloping, I wasn’t surprised. They rented an amazing Airbnb (link here) for a romantic getaway. Despite the cold weather, we met up at one of my favorite spots to take photos!

Winter Engagement Photos Along the Payette River

I believe winter is a great season for engagement photos. Not everyone will agree with me, but I think the snow is so romantic. As long as you are willing to endure a bit of cold, the result is so worth it. I took Jimi and Kelly to one of my favorite Idaho engagement photo locations outside of Boise along the Payette River. The views of the canyon are stunning and the river looks stunning when it freezes over. I was so stoked when Jimi and Kelly thought it was gorgeous too! The surrounding forest is stunning as well. There is so much variety in such a small space. It’s truly the perfect spot to take engagement photos.

Outfits for Winter Engagement Photos

When you are planning your outfits for winter engagement photos, I highly recommend layers. It’s okay to embrace the weather and bring your favorite cute pea coat or winter boots. I typically recommend that couples wear a winter outfit with jackets, scarves, hats, boots, etc. for the first 30-45 minutes. Then, if you want to strip layers into a more formal outfit, I will take photos in the second outfit for the second half of the shoot. I love that Kelly and Jimi embraced the winter season with long pea coats and scarves! It added so much texture and fun to their photos.
