Boise Lifestyle Newborn Photos

I got to photograph this sweet couple’s Idaho wedding, so being asked to document their Boise Lifestyle Newborn Photos felt full circle. Documenting milestones after my wedding clients get married is such an honor. My hope as a Boise wedding photographer that I always get to follow my couples throughout all the milestones in their lives. Sometimes that may include the addition of new dogs, new houses, or a new tiny baby. For Kyla and Roby, they asked if I would take lifestyle newborn photos in their adorable little cottage home with their golden retriever, Cedar. I love photographing lifestyle family sessions and they are truly a blast to be a part of!

On a lovely Saturday morning, I arrived. Kyla and Roby’s home felt so peaceful and tranquil when I showed up. Kyla played soft folk music through the speakers. She had just finished nursing baby Isla Grace. I always say during lifestyle newborn photos that the baby is the boss. No matter how long it takes, I’ll stay until we get everything we need. I like it to feel as much like I’m a fly on the wall as possible. A couple times, Kyla had to pause to nurse Isla or change her. I simply documented a morning of the three of them doing what they might be doing if I wasn’t there! They cuddled on the couch. Cedar even leapt onto the couch to join them and hopped in a few photos! There were a few moments Kyla started to tear up as she stared lovingly at her baby.

How to Prepare for Lifestyle Newborn Photos

  1. I ask my couples to feed their baby as I’m arriving! This way, they are fed and happy.
  2. Ideally, as I walk into the door, your baby is done eating or you’re burping them.
  3. I always remind couples not to get baby dressed up in their fancy photoshoot outfit until I am there. Otherwise, they might spit up or poo in their outfit before I’m even there.
  4. Focus on cleaning the room in your house with the biggest windows and most natural light. I’ll likely spend the most time taking photos there.
  5. Also, if there is a room of your house you spend the most time, I love taking photos there.
  6. Avoid wearing all black or all the same color. Earth tones, creams, soft hues, and neutrals work best!
  7. For new mamas, I always recommend wearing something a little flowy on top so you feel comfortable. Wearing leggings or comfy pants on bottom work great!
  8. Your baby will probably get fussy. That’s okay!
  9. Pick 1-2 outfits for your baby. We may have time for both or we may not. Either way, having a couple options is always nice.
  10. Try to incorporate something with family meaning or significance. A family stuffed animal, a quilt made by grandma, a family heirloom crib, etc. Little mementos add personality and familiarity to your photos!
  11. My last tip is to keep your house warmer than you might think you need to. Babies love being warm!
