Chad and Kim’s fall engagement photos at golden hour in the Boise Foothills turned out SO beautifully. Fall is the most popular time to take engagement photos! And, for good reason! There is something about the magical warm tones in the fall that feel so romantic. Also, the coziness of wearing sweaters, curling up with a blanket, and warm drinks just scream engaged. I had the best time with Chad and Kim who hired me to be their Boise Wedding Photographer and Boise Idaho photographer. When Kim first reached out to me, she said she wanted the photos to feel elegant but still cozy. She also asked me to take lots of photos with negative space and the full Boise Foothills landscape for framing photos in their home. I loved her vision and felt so excited to make it come to life!
Choosing Outfits for Your Fall Engagement Photos
My best advice when choosing your outfits for couples engagement photos is to think about the colors and background where your location is. For example, if you will be near water, your color palette will probably be more cool toned with blues and greens. If you’re taking fall engagement photos with lots of autumn colored trees, your palette will be warm toned with reds, yellows, and oranges. Typically, you want to choose colors that are on the opposite side of the color wheel to make you and your background POP! This means, for water/cool toned landscapes, choose warm colors.
For Kim and Chad’s fall engagement photos, I suggested a cooler color palette. Knowing that the Boise Foothills would be warm colored with lots of oranges and yellows, I suggested cool blues and oranges so they would stand out. Kim wanted photos that felt really timeless and elegant. I knew picking outfits that made them pop against the background would create beautiful compositions with lots of negative space. Also, they wore timeless pieces such as a button down top, cashmere dark sweater, and cozy knitwear that don’t follow any “trends”. Their photos will stand the test of time with their timeless outfit ideas!
Boise Idaho Photographer
I have so many photo locations in the Treasure Valley for the best fall engagement photos. One of my favorite spots to go to is the Boise Lower Gulch Foothills. This spot is amazing because it’s within 10 minutes of downtown Boise. However, you can’t see any buildings or houses in the distance. You feel miles away from the city! My goal is to give my couples full immersive experiences in nature. In my opinion, it’s not enjoyable to be in a public area with strangers watching you make out 😉 Every time I plan an engagement session, I hope that my couple can focus solely on one another and not on their environment!
